Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors have emerged as a significant component of guideline-directed medical therapy for heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction. Recent trials indicate that these medications can substantially reduce adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with HF, including those with mildly reduced and preserved ejection fraction. The review also addresses the metabolic effects of SGLT-2 inhibitors and their safety profile, including potential adverse events associated with their use.
